Welcome
Congratulations on matching to a residency or fellowship program at Geisinger! The Central Line Course, offered by the Clinical Simulation Program (CSP) within the Center for Faculty and Professional Development, supports Geisinger's core value of "Making better health easier." This course aims to change healthcare for the better by educating and training the next generation of providers. Through a standardized approach to simulation-based education and assessment, we seek to ensure that our learners demonstrate a baseline level of knowledge and technical skills needed for safe central line insertion.
Goals:
- Participants will develop the knowledge and skills required to safely insert and manage central venous access devices.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to...
- show proper technique for internal jugular vein central access device insertion with ultrasound demonstrated by achieving an O-score of 3 or better in a simulated environment, and
- apply knowledge of insertion techniques, complications, and ultrasound anatomy to score 68% or greater on a comprehensive single best answer multiple choice exam.
Outline:
- Prework to be completed according to timeline below:
- Learners entering programs with a double-asterisk (**) will receive instructions as part of their GME onboarding package and must complete prework by Monday, April 13th.
