The Geisinger Conference for the Young Hearts
This is a hybrid Educational Activity.
This course will include a review of AAP guidelines of prevention of sudden cardiac arrest and or death in children and young adults as well as review of lessons learned during COVID-19 related cardiac complications in children. Learners would also benefit from review and updates in new interventional cardiology methodologies and updates in pediatric and adult congenital surgery. Information provided during this live activity will lead to improvement in application and performance during cardiac related illness cases.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for Physician, APs, nurse, sonographer, resident, and medical student learners. Other learner groups such as patients, families, and community leaders would also benefit from this education.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- recommend new updates in screening, diagnosis, and management in fetal, newborn, pediatric and adult congenital cardiovascular disease
- recognize when to refer to pediatric cardiology for those at risk for sudden cardiac arrest/death
- discuss COVID-19 related cardiovascular complications
- assess and refer children with common symptoms and signs associated congenital and acquired heart defects
