At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  • Identify the diagnostic role of GFPT2 in distinguishing mesothelioma from its major morphological mimics.
  • Evaluate the limitations of GFPT2, including its reduced specificity in DDLPS and need for panel-based interpretation.
  • Critically appraise the current scientific evidence on human exposure, bioavailability, and potential health effects of microplastics, including limitations of existing toxicological, analytical, and epidemiologic studies and the challenges in establishing causality.
  • Evaluate the discrepancy between public perception and scientific evidence regarding microplastics, and discuss the implications for physician–patient communication, risk counseling, and responsible interpretation of emerging environmental health data.
