Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  • Perform assessment of erythema/ulcers of the lower extremity
  • Recognize the differences between venous ulcers/chronic venous insufficiency, cellulitis and DVT
  • Review the appropriate procedure for obtaining cultures and wound cleansing
  • Exemplify awareness of most common pathogens in VLU
  • Determine when antibiotics are/are not indicated
  • Explain appropriate wound care dressings
  • Determine which Venoactive medications are appropriate
  • Recognize the difference between ultrasound for DVT and venous insufficiency
  • Discuss the best practices in care of venous ulcers
