Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Perform assessment of erythema/ulcers of the lower extremity
- Recognize the differences between venous ulcers/chronic venous insufficiency, cellulitis and DVT
- Review the appropriate procedure for obtaining cultures and wound cleansing
- Exemplify awareness of most common pathogens in VLU
- Determine when antibiotics are/are not indicated
- Explain appropriate wound care dressings
- Determine which Venoactive medications are appropriate
- Recognize the difference between ultrasound for DVT and venous insufficiency
- Discuss the best practices in care of venous ulcers
