Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  •  Recognize “normal” labor patterns are different with patients with obesity.
  •  Evaluate recommendations and data regarding induction of labor for patients with obesity. 
  •  Evaluate intrapartum management for patients with obesity and history of prior Cesarean delivery. 
  •  Examine anesthesia considerations specific to gravitas with obesity. 
  •  Discuss various Cesarean delivery incision types and evaluate the pros and cons of each. 
  •  Discuss methods for optimal wound closure for patients with obesity. 
  •  Review postpartum considerations: VTE prophylaxis, discharge planning, breastfeeding.
