At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Recognize “normal” labor patterns are different with patients with obesity.
- Evaluate recommendations and data regarding induction of labor for patients with obesity.
- Evaluate intrapartum management for patients with obesity and history of prior Cesarean delivery.
- Examine anesthesia considerations specific to gravitas with obesity.
- Discuss various Cesarean delivery incision types and evaluate the pros and cons of each.
- Discuss methods for optimal wound closure for patients with obesity.
- Review postpartum considerations: VTE prophylaxis, discharge planning, breastfeeding.
