Obesity and Nutrition Summit
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, behavioral health providers, and dietitians. Other learner groups such as publich health professions, policy makers, educators, and students would also benefit from this education.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- discuss recent advances in bariatric surgery and procedures and to differentiate the indications and contraindications of each procedure
- use GLP-1 RA treatments appropriately and to optimize treatment plan for the patients with obesity to lose weight and maintain the weight loss and to be able to minimize possible complications/side effects
- recognize the mechanism and symptoms of GI motility disorders secondary to bariatric surgery
- describe the high prevalence of food insecurity and nutritional deficiencies in patients with obesity
- recognize the indications and contraindications of different types of enteral nutrition and to be able to diagnose complications and side effects
