Obesity and Nutrition Summit

This is a hybrid educational activity. The recently combined Obesity and Malnutrition Summit offers attendees a powerful overview of the most up-to-date evidence and hot topics in these fields. It will include representation from a variety of disciplines so that the attendees have a more robust toolkit and skillset to care for all types of patients and issues related to Obesity and Malnutrition. 

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers and psychologists/therapists.  Other learner groups such as medical students from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine as well as Geisinger-affiliated medical residents and fellows would also benefit from this education. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • review the pathophysiology of weight loss and weight re-gain
  • describe efficacy between FDA-approved obesity pharmacotherapies
  • describe current evidence behind of obesity pharmacotherapy use
  • evaluate nutrition state in focused-disease states

    Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. 

    As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Geisinger College of Health Sciences is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Worker Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 6 clinical continuing education credits. 

    Completion of the RD DTR profession-specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU). If the activity is dietetics - related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60 minute hour = 1 CPEU). RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Sphere and Competency selection is at the learner's discretion.
