AP Skills Refresher Course - April 11, 2025
This is an in-person educational activity. This course will provide a review of common clinical skills for APPs employed in primary care-based practices. These skills include, but are not limited to Basic ECG interpretation, Preliminary interpretations of CXR, Triaging Pediatric Orthopedic complaints, Introduction to Ortho Urgent Care, Evaluation of low-back pain, Basic suturing, splinting/joint injections, and evaluating common neurologic complaints and neuro exam skills. Learners should attend to hone these skills which can contribute to reduced ED utilization.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for Geisinger Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants from all regions who specialize in primary-care based practices, specifically Family Medicine and Convenient Care.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- perform basic interpretation of 12 lead EKGs
- demonstrate basic suturing and techniques
- perform joint injections and aspirations
- describe components of a screening neurological exam
- identify strategies for triaging and treating common childhood orthopedic injuries
