Critical Care Medicine Conference

Danville, PA US
April 9, 2025
This is a hybrid educational activity. Attending a Critical Care Medicine education conference centered on clinical equipoise or controversy offers learners an invaluable opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research and expert perspectives on unresolved or debated topics. These sessions foster critical thinking, evidence based decision-making, and nuanced understanding of complex clinical scenarios, empowering participants to refine their practice. By exploring diverse viewpoints and emerging evidence, learners can enhance their ability to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in the dynamic field of critical care medicine.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians (allopathic & osteopathic), physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and psychologists. Other learner groups such as residents, dietitians, and social workers would also benefit from this education.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • recognize the preferred and evidence-based methods of providing stress ulcer prophylaxis in ICU patients, incorporating both risks and benefits of various drug classes
  • discuss the evolving literature in post-cardiac arrest targeted temperature management, recognizing that prior literature that supposed deep hypothermia is being questioned by newer studies that show similar benefit, and less risk, with milder degrees of hypothermia
  • discuss several methods by which to treat advanced pulmonary embolism beyond anticoagulation, including systemic thrombolysis and catheter based interventions, but that these methods should be utilized after multidisciplinary discussion, recognizing patient and facility related factors
  • recognize that ICU acquired delirium is an important consequence of critical illness and that there are evolving methods by which to prevent and treat this serious form of brain dysfunction, including the balance of benefit and harm from these interventions
