Radiologically Contaminated Patient Training - April 8, 2026
Target Audience
This activity is designed for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, and Pharmacists. Other learner groups such as Facilities, Health Physics, Radiology Technologists, Nursing Assistants, Environmental Services, Laboratory, Supply Chain, Security, and Corporate Communications would also benefit from this education.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- locate and describe the nuclear power plant emergency plan information and Geisinger radiological response plan
- describe what radiation is, the types of ionizing radiation, and the difference between radiological exposure vs contamination
- implement current treatment pathways, medical countermeasures, and decontamination procedures for radiological exposure, contamination, and cutaneous radiation injuries
- demonstrate appropriate PPE Donning/Doffing and patient packaging techniques for minimizing contamination
