Enduring - This is a virtual, asynchronous educational session that is part of the Center for Faculty and Professional Development’s Foundations in Health Systems Science series.

Healthcare delivery science education (HDSE) is increasingly needed by physicians balancing clinical care, practice management, and leadership responsibilities in their daily lives. Continuing professional development initiatives can empower health professionals to optimize strategic and system-focused educational roles and responsibilities.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, advanced practitioners, and all health professions educators across the Geisinger system.  Other learner groups such as residents and fellows, non-clinician educators, program administrators, program Organizers and directors would also benefit from this education.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • explain the relationship between Quality Improvement (QI) and Systems Thinking.
  • identify the Model for Improvement.
  • summarize fundamental steps for quality improvement.
  • recognize undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education expectations for QI.
  • illustrate how to introduce EQUIPS and the work for the committee.
