Geisinger Nurses Interventional Endoscopy (GENIE) Course

This is an in-person educational activity. There are very limited opportunities for advanced endoscopy nurse's education, let alone advanced endoscopy courses. There is a need for critical education to improve both knowledge and technical skills among endoscopy nurses and techs participating in advanced procedures. Live cases are streamed for viewing to the participants with interactive discussion during each case, followed by a hands-on practice lab.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Techs, as well as all Endsocopy Staff Members.  

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • explain the pathophysiology and endoscopic management of various gastrointestinal diseases
  • explain the indications, contraindications, complications, and management of various advanced endoscopy procedures
  • identify the difference in interventional endoscopy from observing live endoscopic cases of ERCP, EUS, EMR/ESD, third space endoscopy, and Endohepatology procedures with an interactive panel-based discussion
  • demonstrate appropriate use of ERCP, EUS, EMR, stents, endoscopic clipping, foreign body removal etc utilizing the hands-on preceptorship stations

    Henry Hood Center for Health Research is located on the Geisinger Campus in Danville, PA (Montour County), Exit 224 on Interstate 80. Routes 11 and 54 also intersect in Danville.
