True ocular emergencies and urgencies are serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situations requiring immediate action on the part of the entire health care team. Safe and effective pain management options will provide the health care team with improved skills in the assessment and management of acute and chronic pain, as well as better understanding of the public health and public safety challenges facing Pennsylvania from the Opioid epidemic.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians, optometrists, advanced practitioners, nurses and ophthalmic technicians.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • identify ocular presentations which are truly emergent or urgent
  • discuss ophthalmic disease and disorder co-morbidities
  • adopt treatment strategies in pain management
  • recognize public health implications of opioid abuse

To find Mohegan Sun Pocono from Philadelphia and Allentown, take Interstate 476 (Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike) to Exit 105. Turn left onto PA-115 N (Bear Creek Blvd.). Go approximately 5 miles. PA-115 N becomes PA-309 N. Take Exit 1 from PA 309 N. At traffic light, turn left onto PA-315. Mohegan Sun Pocono is 1.5 miles on the left.
