This is a live, in-person educational activity. Fundamental Critical Care Support Obstetrics provides training specific to treating the critically ill or injured pregnant patient. The course is recommended for healthcare professionals who may provide maternal/fetal critical care and for clinicians in obstetrics seeking critical care training.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for all healthcare providers who participated in patient care at all levels where there is a possibility of patient’s clinical status worsening acutely of presenting with serious illness, such as physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, physician assistants and pharmacists.  Other learner groups such as paramedics and or prehospital responders would also benefit from this education. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • recognize the physiologic changes of pregnancy and their effect the diagnosis and management of critically ill pregnant patients
  • describe diagnosis criteria for preeclampsia/eclampsia
  • recognize the physiological changes during pregnancy that can make the diagnosis of thromboembolic disease more challenging
  • recognize the role of multidisciplinary management in surgical emergencies
  • describe management of ARDS in pregnancy

    Travel

    The Kistler Learning Center Rooms are located inside the main hospital at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley campus in Wilkes Barre, PA. Employees can park in the employee parking lots on the East Campus, visitors can park in the Visitor lots on the West Campus.

    From the West Campus – walk or take a shuttle to the main entrance, go through the main lobby and make a left at the staircase, and keep going left towards the bathrooms. The Kistler Learning Center Rooms will be on your right, there’s 3 doors to use.

    From the East Campus – enter the hospital through the employee entrance at the Heart Hospital, take the elevator or stairs to the 3rd floor. Make a left off the elevator, go straight, then make a right at the intersection with the C Elevators. Go all the way down the long hallway until you reach a brown door straight in front of you. Go through the door and down the stairs into the main lobby. Bear right off the stairs and walk towards the bathrooms, the Kistler Learning Center Rooms will be on the right. (accessible directions: take the C elevator on the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor, go straight down the long hallway, keep going straight passed the main lobby and stairs towards the bathrooms, the Kistler Learning Center Rooms will be on the right).
