Fundamentals of Critical Care Medicine - Surgical - August 24 - 25, 2026

This is an in-person educational activity. The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) Surgical course provides nonsurgical healthcare professionals with the knowledge and training they need for the initial care, stabilization, and urgent disposition of critically ill surgical patients. Topics covered include recognition and assessment of the seriously ill surgical patient, surgical airway emergencies, abdominal surgical emergencies, and cardiovascular surgical emergencies.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for all healthcare providers who participate in patient care at all levels where there is a possibility of patient's clinical status worsening acutely of presenting with serious illness. Other learner groups such as paramedics and prehospital responders would also benefit from this education. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • recognize early signs and symptoms of critical illness
  • identify adverse events and drug interactions from anesthetics in post operative period
  • discuss indications and techniques for noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV)
  • prioritize appropriate treatment and management of a surgical emergency
  • identify patients with acute coronary syndromes

Attendance will be recorded within three to four days of the conclusion of the activity.  Credit will display on your continuing education transcript once the activity evaluation is completed.
