Coaching for Competency: Building Foundational Faculty Coaching Skills to Support Learner Growth and Preparedness

This highly interactive, one-day faculty development workshop is designed to empower educators with the skills and tools to identify learning gaps early and support performance improvement through a robust coaching framework. You’ll gain practical strategies to support growth and development in others, and learn how to apply coaching strategies in real-world scenarios.

This in-person event will be followed by a longitudinal virtual coaching series, offering participants the opportunity to practice and refine their skills while building a supportive coaching community of practice.

Key Program Highlights:

  • What is Coaching? Understand the role and impact of coaching in medical education—and how it differs from mentoring and advising.
  • Key Learning Concepts: Explore Informed Self-Assessment, Growth Mindset, and the Master Adaptive Learner framework.
  • Coaching Models and Tools: Learn practical frameworks for effective coaching conversations.
  • Identifying Learning Gaps: Develop techniques to recognize and address areas for improvement in sufficient time for learner advancement decisions.
  • Competency Based Medical Education: Align coaching strategies with educational outcomes.
  • Performance Improvement and Remediation: Support learners through challenges with structured, compassionate approaches.

 

 

Target Audience

Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, Clinical Competency Committee Chair, or core faculty involved in remediation efforts within a training program. This course would also benefit faculty who is new to coaching or those who are looking to refine their skills.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

Attendance
Attendance will be recorded within three to four days of the conclusion of the activity.  Credit will display on your continuing education transcript once the activity evaluation is completed.
