Accelerated Medical Pathway Programs for Workforce Development

Enduring - This is a virtual, asynchronous educational session that is part of the Center for Faculty and Professional Development’s Foundations in Medical Education Grand Rounds series.

Dr. Coe is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and the Assistant Dean for the Clinical Curriculum at the University of North Carolina. In her role as the Assistant Dean for the Clinical Curriculum, she oversees the clinical phases for 3rd and 4th year medical students across the state of North Carolina, including 3 regional medical campuses and 2 regional clinical sites. She helped to establish the Fully Integrated Readiness for Service Training (FIRST) Program, an accelerated three-year medical school curriculum with a directed pathway to a UNC-affiliated residency program, followed by three years of service to the state of North Carolina. Through her leadership, the FIRST Program has expanded to four specialties and each of our statewide campus partners. Dr. Coe also serves as the Associate Medical Director to the University Employee Occupational Health Clinic and is the Principal Investigator on several medical education grants. ​​

Dr. Coe received her medical degree from the University of Washington and trained as a resident and Chief Resident at the University of North Carolina Family Medicine Residency Program. Her scholarly interests include the clinical curriculum, workforce development, Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) to Graduate Medical Education (GME) continuum/ transition, competency-based assessments, and work-place assessments. Dr. Coe is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Board of Directors and also active in the American Medical Association (AMA) Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium.​

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists and social workers.  Other learner groups, such as. residents, fellows, medical students, non-clinician educators, GME program administrators and other education staff would also benefit from this education.
