At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  • Describe the clinical and ethical principles of Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD), including eligibility criteria, end-of-life care considerations, and the role of the healthcare team in supporting potential donor families.
  • Explain the emerging use of Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) in the recovery of organs from DCD donors, including its mechanism, benefits, and current application in adult donation and transplant medicine.
  • Discuss how pediatric healthcare teams can engage in the evolving landscape of DCD, including strategies for interdisciplinary collaboration and communication with families.
