At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

• Recognize common psychiatric conditions encountered in medical and specialty practice settings, including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related disorders, substance use disorders, and eating disorders.
• Identify when psychiatric referral is indicated, including red flag symptoms, safety concerns, diagnostic complexity, treatment resistance, and the need for specialized mental health services.
• Apply evidence-informed communication strategies to engage patients experiencing mental health concerns and reduce barriers to psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
• Describe key screening, assessment, and safety considerations for patients with suspected or diagnosed eating disorders, including medical complications that warrant urgent intervention.
