At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

Recognize common psychiatric conditions encountered in medical and specialty practice settings, including anxiety disorders, depression, trauma-related disorders, substance use disorders, and eating disorders.

Identify when psychiatric referral is indicated, including red flag symptoms, safety concerns, diagnostic complexity, treatment resistance, and the need for specialized mental health services.

Apply evidence-informed communication strategies to engage patients experiencing mental health concerns and reduce barriers to psychiatric evaluation and treatment.

Describe key screening, assessment, and safety considerations for patients with suspected or diagnosed eating disorders, including medical complications that warrant urgent intervention.
