This is an in-person educational activity. The SCCM ICU Liberation Course is an evidence-based educational activity designed to improve outcomes for critically ill patients by implementing the ABCDEF bundle—Assess, prevent, and manage pain; Both spontaneous awakening and breathing trials; Choice of analgesia and sedation; Delirium assessment, prevention, and management; Early mobility; and Family engagement. This course equips learners with practical tools and strategies to reduce the physical and psychological burdens of critical illness, shorten ICU stays, and enhance recovery. Participants should attend to gain hands-on skills, interdisciplinary perspectives, and the latest best practices that can be immediately applied in their ICUs to optimize patient and family-centered care. 

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, physician assistants nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and respiratory therapists.  Other learner groups such as fellows, residents, medical students, physical and occupational therapists and psychologists would also benefit from this education. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • describe the evidence supporting the ICU liberation (ABCDEF) bundle and its impact on patient outcomes, including reductions in delirium, ventilator days, and ICU length of stay
  • apply validated tools and protocols for delirium assessment, sedation minimization, early mobility and family engagement in daily ICU practice
  • demonstrate competence in coordinating interdisciplinary implementation of spontaneous awakening and breathing trials as part of the ICU liberation bundle.
  • evaluate and integrate effective implementation strategies to overcome local barriers and achieve consistent, sustainable application of the bundle in their own ICU setting

In the unusual circumstance that this course is cancelled, you will be called and/or emailed, and any tuition fees received would be refunded in full.  Geisinger is not responsible for any airfare, hotel or other costs incurred.
 
Attendance
Attendance will be recorded within three to four days of the conclusion of the activity.  Credit will display on your continuing education transcript once the activity evaluation is completed.
