Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  • Outline historical data regarding Lapidus procedure in the correction and maintenance of HAV deformity.
  • Contrast classic Lapidus procedure versus Lapiplasty: AOFAS scores, revision rates, and complications.
  • Discuss evolution of Lapidus procedure as it relates to nonunion rates.
  • Present challenges to the distal to proximal approach to hammertoe correction.
  • Discuss long-term efficacy of tendon-balancing procedures in the treatment of toe instability.
  • Review and contrast PIPJ arthrodesis versus traditional arthroplasty: anatomical and compensatory considerations in recurrence and adjacent toe deformity.
