• discuss how anesthetic decisions impact the patient, the public and the environment
• describe hospital waste, human health and environmental risks associated with hospital waste
• identify one's own practice-whether waste reduction is part of anesthetic decisions
• discuss the current literature on waste reduction for anesthesia providers
• describe the role of anesthesia providers in reducing hospital waste
• describe the guidelines/recommendations from several agencies to reduce waste while promoting safety
