Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  • Perform assessment of erythema/ulcers of the lower extremity.

  • Recognize the differences between venous ulcers/chronic venous insufficiency, cellulitis, and DVT.

  • Understand the appropriate procedure for obtaining cultures and wound cleansing.

  • Awareness of most common pathogens in VLU.

  • Determine when antibiotics are/are not indicated.

  • Understand appropriate wound care dressings.

  • Determine which Venoactive medications are appropriate.

  • Understand the difference between ultrasound for DVT and venous insufficiency.

  • Discuss the best practices in care of venous ulcers.
