Target Audience

This activity is designed for Physicians, Advanced Practitioners, Pharmacists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Critical Care Physicians, Cardiology Providers, Internal Medicine Providers, Cardiothoracic Surgery Providers, and Mechanical Circulatory Support Team. Other learner groups such as Cardiology and Critical Care fellows, Internal medicine residents, and perfusionists would also benefit from this education. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize the limitations of current diagnostic tools, identify early shock phenotypes, and address common pitfalls in the timely management of cardiogenic shock.
  • Apply evidence-based practice to choose appropriate mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices to improve outcomes in cardiogenic shock.
  • Determine the evolving role of coronary revascularization and structural heart interventions in the acute and longitudinal management of cardiogenic shock patients.
  • Review contemporary pathways to advanced heart failure therapies, including durable MCS and transplantation.
  • Develop effective cardiogenic shock networks using multidisciplinary shock teams to improve survival and streamline care delivery.
