17th Annual Our Mission to Teach Conference: Teaching in a Changing System - Preparing Faculty and Learners for a Culture of High Reliability

This is an in-person educational activity. This conference aims to bridge the gap between medical education and clinical practice by fostering a culture of high reliability within healthcare systems and education. The overarching purpose is to equip faculty and learners with the tools, strategies, and mindset necessary to thrive in environments that prioritize safety, resilience, and continuous improvement. By focusing on high reliability principles, the conference seeks to inspire educators to become culture carriers who model and teach behaviors that reduce errors, enhance team performance, and improve patient outcomes. The challenge is to embed reliability into everyday educational and clinical practices.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, and physician educators.  Other learner groups such as program administrative staff and PhD educators would also benefit from this education. 

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • apply the principles of high reliability organizing to analyze clinical and educational systems and their sources of risk and variation
  • identify opportunities within medical education to design and lead improvements in safety, reliability, and operational performance
