Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:

  • Distinguish atrial fibrillation with RVR that is driving hemodynamic compromise from AF that is a compensatory response to acute illness, and select rate-control strategy accordingly.
  • Apply the ARISTOTLE-derived apixaban dose-reduction criteria correctly, and explain why off-label dose reduction is associated with worse outcomes rather than safer ones.
  • Evaluate high-grade AV block for reversible causes before referral, and differentiate nodal from infranodal block on the surface ECG.
  • Determine the appropriate inpatient workup for asymptomatic non-sustained VT and incidental telemetry findings, including when echocardiography, ambulatory monitoring, or cardiac MRI is indicated.
  • Review, Risk-stratify syncope using history, ECG, and validated tools, and identify the testing that current guidelines designate as low-yield.
  • Specify the clinical findings that warrant electrophysiology consultation, and describe what conduction system pacing offers over conventional right ventricular pacing.
