At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Identify the cardinal features of decompensated cirrhosis and recognize the clinical significance of key decompensation events.
- Describe the pathophysiology of portal hypertension and its role in driving key decompensation events.
- Plan an evidence-based approach to the diagnosis and management of acute complications of cirrhosis.
- Recognize common inpatient pitfalls in cirrhosis care and implement strategies to prevent iatrogenic harm.
- Identify inpatient triggers and clinical thresholds that warrant transfer to a transplant center
