At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

• Evaluate the impact of changes in tidal volume and frequency on CO2 and Mechanical Power when the HME is both utilized and not in the mechanical ventilator circuit.
• Discuss the relationship between Mechanical Power and mortality rates in patients when utilizing the HME and tidal volume based strategy.
• Overview the study limitations and how that could effect the results.
