At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  •       Discuss the challenges of fear, stress, and anxiety experienced by pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures
  • Define the pediatric emergence agitation     
  • Compare the mechanism of action of oral midazolam versus intranasal dexmedetomidine
  • Discuss additional benefits and limitations of administering oral midazolam versus intranasal dexmedetomidine to pediatric patients
  • Compare the amount of parent separation anxiety and emergence agitation in pediatric patients receiving oral midazolam versus intranasal dexmedetomidine
  • Discuss the overall effect of oral midazolam and intranasal dexmedetomidine on the reduction in MAP and HR
