Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- describe the historical development and current guidelines regarding evaluation of children with bruising sentinel injuries
- identify the components of a multidisciplinary response, including medical evaluations, forensic interviews, and victim advocacy
- identify the leading causes of child abuse deaths, and their relevance of recommended testing in evaluation of suspected child abuse.
- determine the needed medical treatment and evidentiary collection requirements for children who require surgical intervention for genital and anal injuries.
