Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to: 

  1. describe the historical development and current guidelines regarding evaluation of children with bruising sentinel injuries 
  2. identify the components of a multidisciplinary response, including medical evaluations, forensic interviews, and victim advocacy 
  3. identify the leading causes of child abuse deaths, and their relevance of recommended testing in evaluation of suspected child abuse. 
  4. determine the needed medical treatment and evidentiary collection requirements for children who require surgical intervention for genital and anal injuries.
