At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding:
Students should demonstrate knowledge of common surgical problems, indications for diagnostic tests, and surgical treatments, including alternatives.
Surgical Skills:
They should be able to perform basic procedures like venipuncture, catheter insertion, and incision closure, as well as apply OR protocols like scrubbing and gowning.
Clinical Application:
Students should be able to evaluate and assess patients, integrate history and physical examination findings, and apply knowledge to problem-solving in various clinical situations.
Teaching also focuses on developing communication, teamwork, judgment, and leadership skills, which are crucial in the OR environment.
